A Branch (Branch No 2071) of The British Sub-Aqua Club |
The return to Cornish diver had always been inevitable, especially after the purchase of their new hard boat/gin palace. We all met up in Falmouth in the usual place (outside the 2 pubs , by the little harbour, a scene of former triumphs and disgrace, but strangely hard to recall the exact name of anything ) and had a few beers before a sensibly early night.
Next morning was a tad, nay a smidgen (what have ducks got to do with it) windy so after the girls had met Tristan we loaded the boat and set of for the 5 minute jaunt to the narrows. Given the weather and the location (in the harbour) this was a surprising dive - acceptable vis, a selection of life including green crabs with long legs, reasonable depth and a sea bed covered in crunchy fossilised seaweed stuff (it will have a posh name but underwater crunchy bits gets the point across).
After a lunch at cafe a la Steve we dived the narrows (more life, more crunchy bits) again before retiring to the B&B to boost their alcohol sales and watch the 6 o'clock rule in action.
The next day dawned worse, the wind was easterly (a new concept to some) and stronger by an iota or two so the sheltered sites beckoned again. This time the Stanwood, a wreck in 15 - 25 m and broken up. A touch less murk and atmospheric would have been a good description, still there was plenty to see if you kept your nose on the wreck including the usual suspects and a fish that Debelius hasn't got a picture of or I'd name it here and feel very smug indeed.
Sanity then prevailed and we set of early home, noticing suspiciously better weather on the drive home. A good weekend, a nice boat, Castaways' first social divers and vague plans to return, apparently that Tristan is ever so nice.
